The inaugural China-Singapore Joint Symposium on AI Frontiers and Governance

On 28th October 2024, President Ho Teck Hua led a delegation to Shanghai, China, for the inaugural China-Singapore Symposium on AI Frontiers and Governance. Co-organized by the Academy of Engineering, Singapore (SAEng), and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), the symposium brought together leading experts to address critical issues in Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The event featured keynote speeches and presentations by fellows and academicians from both academies, showcasing cutting-edge research in domains such as smart cities, intelligent design and manufacturing, and network intelligence.

 During the opening ceremony, President Ho delivered video-recorded opening remarks.

This was followed by Professor Wang Rong, Secretary of SAEng, providing an introduction to the Academy for our Chinese delegation.

Our Fellows actively contributed to the symposium by sharing their research findings in two separate sessions.

In the first session, Professor Wen Yonggang gave a presentation on the dual paradigm of Sustainability by AI and AI for Sustainability, offering an in-depth analysis of their environmental implications and transformative potential.

Next, Professor Quek Quee Seng shared his insights on the AI-RAN Alliance, and how it plans to transform future networks with AI.

Dr Yan Shuicheng then followed with a talk on high-performance foundation models and discussed their development from a mathematical perspective.

In the second session, Professor Li Erping presented the benefits, challenges, and future research directions of AI-enabled computational electromagnetics for 3D chiplets and communication systems.

Last but not least, Professor Guo Yongxin shared his expertise on leveraging AI to advance the intelligentization of smart healthcare and optimize RF chip design.

Our Fellows also participated in a panel discussion alongside academicians from the CAE. The panel served as a platform for exchanging ideas on Artificial Intelligence Empowering Education, Science, and Engineering Technology Innovation and exploring how AI can contribute to better quality of life.

The symposium also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between SAEng and CAE, aimed at establishing a cooperative platform to strengthen partnerships between the two academies.
